Plan a Northern California Vacation

A visit to California is a great idea for anyone thinking of taking a vacation. They typical California vacation usually involves incredible amusement parks, awesome shopping opportunities, and sun soaked beaches. When most people think of traveling to the state they think about the more popular Southern California region, there are a number of areas though worth visiting in Northern California too.

Northern California has a much different feel to it than its southern counterpart, and for most people that feel tends to lead them to have a more relaxing vacation in a less populated and less frequented area.  But there should me no mistakes made in understanding the fact that Northern California can offer a wonderful vacation experience for anyone seeking a chance to get away to one of the most unique and beautiful places in the country.

Northern California offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the Western United States, from beautiful and rugged coastal areas on into the forested highlands of the southern part of the Cascade Mountain Range.  This area of California, though a little quieter and more laid back, isn't completely without the benefits of large cities as one of the most exciting and entertainment filled cities in the country is located there, the city of San Francisco.

San Fancisco Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay Area is famous for offering the kinds of experiences that please and surprise people from all kinds of  backgrounds and with all kinds of interests.  The San Francisco Bay Area is home to a number of activities and outdoor recreation possibilities including fishing, boating, and touring unique attractions like Alcatraz.  The Bay Area is also the location of the fabulous Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Mt. Tamaipais State Park.  This area sits right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and stretches from the city of San Francisco towards the north.  The San Francisco Bay Area is also home to a number of opportunities to view professional sporting events like Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics, the National Basketball Association's Golden State Warriors, and the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.  Downtown San Francisco is a popular stop for many travelers due to the wide variety of experiences that can be had from shopping, to fine dining, and fun attractions including the world famous Fisherman's Wharf area.  There are a number of other urban areas in Northern California worth visiting as well including Sacramento, Oakland, Fresno, Redding, and more.

The Coastal Region
Northern California's coastline is incredibly beautiful and inviting.  The scenery though is much different than many people expect, especially if they are picturing the endless sandy flat beaches of Southern California.  The Northern California coastline has plenty of sandy beaches and inviting water, but the landscape is much more rugged with a number of rocky cliffs and rock formations.  Some of the more popular beaches in Northern California include the beaches in Marin County, those within the Presidio in San Francisco, and the beaches in the Point Reyes National Seashore.  There are also a number of quaint communities along the coast that cater to discriminating guests with wonderful shops, boutiques, and bed & breakfasts.  In many areas of Northern California, the famous forests venture right up to the coastline and offer travelers a chance to take part in camping and hiking within close range of the Pacific Ocean.

The Mountain Region
The inland portion of Northern California is dominated by the Cascade Mountains.  There are a number of exciting outdoor recreational possibilities in the region including hiking, hunting, fishing, river rafting, boating, mountain climbing, camping, mountain biking, and more.  This area is some of the least populated in the entire state and offers some of the most relaxing and remote experiences.  There are a number of mountain communities in this region, many located very near to some of the natural resources that provide all of the recreational opportunities that make this section of the state so popular.  Within this region are several popular destinations including Yosemite National Park, Eldorado National Forest, Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, Lassen National Forest, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area, and Mount Shasta itself.

Visit Northern California with Southwest

Southwest not only offers low priced airlines but now also offers vacation packages as well through their southwest vacations site.  Use any existing coupons from this southwest vacations promotion code site  for even cheaper vacation deals.

While Southern California gets the most attention by the vacationing public, and somewhat deservedly so, based on attractions like Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Disneyland, and everything else offered by the communities of San Diego, Los Angeles, and more, there are many opportunities for wonderful vacations in Northern California too.  This region of California has everything it takes to please and entertain those interested in shopping, outdoor recreation, water recreation, professional sports, historical sites, scenic drives, and more.  A visit to Northern California can create the exact types of vacation memories that everyone venturing out for a fun trip are seeking.  Northern California quite simply has it all.
